Tax Exemption

Donors who have India as their tax residence and who require a tax exemption receipt are advised to clearly earmark the project for which a donation is made and indicate that they wish to avail the exemption by email. Tax exemption receipts can be offered under sections 35(1)(ii) and (iii) of the Indian Income Tax Act depending on the project type.

Donations made directly to Auroville from abroad do not qualify for tax exemption in the home country. If you require a tax exemption in your home country you are advised to make your donation to the Auroville International Centre (AVI) in your country while mentioning the Auroville project for which the donation is earmarked. Please check with the Auroville International Centre in your country of residence whether tax exemptions are available for donations made to them and under which conditions, which will vary from country to country.
